There are a LOT of liberal arts students out there looking for positions, and a lot of them end up doing anything, not what they want to do, because their degree and/or major was so general. I've met CEOs of Fortune 500 companies who were English majors(like MET Life, for example), and I've met English majors who have found a fulfilling profession. But those are the outliers, not the rule.
