Don’t feed the trolls, and other hideous lies
The Verge
Online communities have always been breeding grounds for haters and bullies, and the most common approach to sidestepping their vitriol is to ignore them. But as essayist and social commentator Film Crit Hulk explains in this thoughtful piece for The Verge, “Don’t feed the trolls” isn’t a viable or healthy long-term tactic for managing online attacks. Rather, Hulk maintains, moderators and participants in online discussions should develop strategies that focus on the victims’ rights and well-being. getAbstract recommends this insightful essay to anyone who detests vituperative online discussions.
